Meet the Makers at Fortnum & Mason
Join us this Thursday, 17th October, when our founder Alice Walsh will be taking part in a discussion at London’s Fortnum & Mason.
Hosted in Fortnum & Mason’s 3’6 Bar, enjoy drinks, canapés and talks from 18:30-20:30 to celebrate the launch of Fortnum’s exclusive collaboration with Private White, featuring a host of UK-based designers and business owners. You can learn more here.
Private White V.C was founded in 2008 by James Eden, great grandson of Private Jack White – a WW1 war hero who later became general manager of the same Manchester factory that all Private White V.C. clothing is manufactured in.
Combining the functionality of classic military clothing with a minimalistic, retro-techno style, each menswear piece crafted by the brand is made in one building, with 90% of the materials used being locally sourced within driving distance of Manchester, UK. Sharing the same passion for the highest quality, exceptionally crafted menswear, Private White V.C. have partnered with Fortnum’s to launch its own exclusive collection of pieces for the modern man.
Alice Made This is excited to join the celebrations at the launch of this exclusive collaboration, with Alice appearing in conversation alongside a host of our contemporaries in the menswear and fashion industries, including:
James Eden – Founder of Private White V.C.
After leaving his London based finance career behind, James moved back to his hometown of Manchester to take over the factory which was established by his grandfather after WW1. In 2008 he founded men’s clothing brand, Private White V.C. in this same factory. Over the last decade, James has taken the last remaining cotton factory in Manchester and transformed it into a thriving enterprise, producing high-quality clothing made nearly entirely from locally sourced materials.
Tim Little – Owner of Grenson
In 1997 Tim Little left an advertising career to pursue a life-long dream of designing his own shoe collection. He opened his own shop on the Kings Road, wholesaling to Barneys New York and Selfridges, as well as designing for brands such as Joseph, Tods and Dunhill. In 2005 he took over Grenson, a struggling Northampton based shoe brand and slowly revitalised it to become a world-renowned business with four shops in London and collaborations with New Balance, Barbour and Henry Holland.
James Chase – Co-founder of Chase Distillery
Based in Hertfordshire, James Chase founded Chase Distillery in 2008 with the mission to champion field to bottle distilling. With the help of his father and brother, Chase Distillery has become a pioneer in the UK’s craft spirit movement – no doubt aided by their belief that the closer you are to the source of your ingredients, the better.
Aleks Cvetkovic – Freelance Fashion Journalist
Based in London, Aleks Cvetkovic is a freelance fashion journalist and host of HandCut Radio – a podcast that aims to generate conversation and debate in the menswear industry. He has also written men’s style stories for The Financial Times, Robb Report, The Telegraph and The Jackal.
Alice brings with her the experience she has gained from starting Alice Made This, in particular our collaborations with engineers and our work with raw materials, as well are her knowledge from designing for brands such as Habitat, Panasonic and British Airways.
