A relationship with Identity

Identity is such a massive word that can have so many literal and non-literal meanings. It is a word we come back to time and time again when talking about the design and development of our jewellery. Whether my personal identity, our makers identity, enabling the expression of your identity, our brand identity, or more, each of these are big conversations. These topics, that intertwine each other in a non-linear format, are used to create our jewellery and products at Alice Made This. Captured through the art of science and the science of art, and complex in thinking, our design-led jewellery tries to articulate our thought process in a paired back, well proportioned, authentic manner.

Jewellery is a universal form of adornment and one that dates to ancient, even prehistoric times. It is likely that from an early date it was worn as protection from the dangers of life or as a mark of status or rank. Gold was buried with its owners to be taken into the afterlife with them giving the jewellery a notion of ritual.

I believe this remains true today. Not that you wear it to your next life, but rather that jewellery can be used to capture moments, preserve memories, and to act as a form of symbolic armour or a platform for self-expression.

And so, we begin our dive into identity at Alice Made This. With weekly stories of past, present and future, we will explore the magnitude of detail. We will explore all types of jewellery, what they mean and how they can be worn. We will gather insights into our craftsman, engineers, materials and process, the building blocks of who we are. We will explore our inspirations, our information, and the reason behind our designs. Finally, we will of course celebrate you, our customers, and understand how jewellery is used to protect, preserve, and self-express. Come with us on this journey…
