Alice Made This is Closing!
A personal message from Alice,
"It is with mixed emotions that we are closing the doors on Alice Made This.
‘Making it meaningful since 2012’ has been an epic journey of growth for which I am extremely grateful to you all. As a young(er) designer back in 2012 I entered the realms of business and fashion to mount a steep learning curve of retail calendars, profit and loss sheets, new-age marketing, and so much more. To say it has been a ride is an understatement. The retail world, and world in general, has evolved an enormous amount in our 14 years of business and although this decision has not been taken lightly, it really feels right to be saying farewell.
From the outside I believe that many of you think of us as a bigger business than we are! The challenges of a small business, built to make small batches, in a responsible way are deeply felt in today’s environment, and reality bites when there is a family to clothe, house and feed. There is always an option to pivot and create cheaper, faster, less ‘good’ wares ‘just because’, but this is not in our DNA and goes against everything in my bones. I have thought long and hard about this, and have reached a decision to look at my next phase where the graft and finances can be enjoyed by my actual children and not just my business baby!
I am bowing out with a desire to continue exploring futures in innovation, global change, good business, materials and resources. I will continue to lead the consumer mindset shift in some way.
The Alice Made This chapter in my life has given me a huge amount of growth as an individual. It has allowed me to meet and learn from so many wonderful humans. I am truly grateful to everyone I have had the opportunity to work with throughout this journey. From our artists, craftspeople and engineers (the blood that runs through AMT!) to my business mentors, accountants, retail partners, creatives, stylists and talent, exceptional internal team members, and of course the best friends and family. It has been a wild ride, and I have soaked up all your wise words, support and expertise.
To you, our excellent customers, I feel like we have managed to create a beautiful group of people who genuinely care about the materials they consume and the people who make their items. You are a unique bunch, and I have faith in you to lead the charge for a sustainable future.
This is not the end, but rather the closing of the Alice Made This Chapter.
So What Now…
Online Sales
We still have stock to offer so everything is in our CLOSING DOWN SALE here to ensure that all of the items we have made to date can be enjoyed and worn. Make sure you keep an eye on our newsletters and our socials over the next few weeks. I will be adding studio items and unearthing some women's pieces too. Please, please can I ask you all to share this on your channel / pass the Sale links to your family, friends and loved ones so we can ensure that all of our stock goes to a good home and not into a box or a recycling unit.
AMT Youth Programme
I am hugely proud of being able to facilitate the Programme through Alice Made This. Through this I have had the pleasure of meeting and collaborating with the next generation of creative minds and feel inspired everyday by them. The future of our Youth Programme is not wholly certain, but as an independent Community Interest Company it can be unaffected by the closure of AMT in principle. This year’s programme will be adapted to accommodate the change to Alice Made This and I will be working with my fellow directors on it future plans. It really has been an exceptional 14 years of learning, creativity, joy, challenge, craftsmanship and community. Anyone reading this is has played some part in this, so from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! X
